Verifying Your Domain with an Email Code

Verify domain ownership by receiving and entering a 6-digit verification code sent to an email address at your domain.

Overview

Email code verification sends a 6-digit verification code to an email address at the domain you're verifying. This proves you have access to an active email account on that domain.

When This Method Is Used

Email code verification is offered when:

  • Your account email matches the domain you're adding, but Smart Verification conditions aren't fully met
  • You manually select the "Email" tab in the verification modal
  • The domain supports email verification (not a restricted type)

Step 1: Enter an Email Address

In the verification modal, provide a valid email address at the target domain. For example, if you're verifying company.com, you can use:

The email must end with @yourdomain.com — addresses on other domains will be rejected.

Step 2: Check Your Inbox

Verusight sends an email containing your 6-digit verification code. The email comes from Verusight's notification system and includes:

  • The domain being verified
  • Your 6-digit code
  • A note that the code expires in 15 minutes

Check your spam/junk folder if you don't see the email within a few minutes.

Step 3: Enter the Code

Type the 6-digit code into the verification form and click "Verify". If the code matches and hasn't expired, your domain is immediately verified.

Resending the Code

If you didn't receive the code or it expired:

  • Click "Resend Code" to generate and send a new code
  • The previous code is invalidated when a new one is sent
  • Each new code is valid for 15 minutes

Restrictions

Email code verification is not available for certain domain types:

  • .edu (educational institutions)
  • .gov (government agencies)
  • .mil (military organizations)
  • .ac (academic institutions)

For these domains, use DNS TXT Verification or File Upload Verification.

Rate Limits

To protect against brute-force attacks, email code verification has a rate limit of 5 attempts per 15 minutes per domain. If you enter an incorrect code too many times, you'll need to wait before trying again.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Code not received Check your spam folder. Ensure the recipient email address exists and can receive external mail.
Code expired Click "Resend Code" to get a new one (valid for 15 minutes).
"Email verification is not available for this domain type" The domain is .edu, .gov, .mil, or .ac. Use DNS or file verification.
"Email must end with @yourdomain.com" You entered an email that doesn't match the domain you're verifying.
"Too many attempts" Wait 15 minutes before trying again.
