Quick Diagnostic
Which verification method are you using?
Smart Verification Issues
| Problem |
Solution |
| "Smart verification is not available for this domain type" |
Your domain is .edu, .gov, .mil, or .ac. Use DNS or file verification. |
| "Please verify your email address first" |
Your account email isn't verified. Check your inbox for the verification link, or request a new one from Settings. |
| Nothing happens when I add the domain |
Your account email domain doesn't match the domain you're adding. The system automatically falls back to DNS/file verification. |
Email Code Issues
| Problem |
Solution |
| I didn't receive the code |
Check spam/junk folder. Ensure the recipient email exists. Try a different email at the same domain. |
| Code expired |
Codes are valid for 15 minutes. Click "Resend Code" for a new one. |
| "Email verification is not available" |
Your domain type is restricted. Use DNS or file verification. |
| "Too many attempts" |
Wait 15 minutes (rate limit: 5 attempts per 15 minutes). |
DNS TXT Record Issues
| Problem |
Solution |
| "TXT record not found" |
DNS may not have propagated. Wait 15–30 minutes. Verify with dig TXT yourdomain.com @8.8.8.8. |
| Record exists but verification fails |
Ensure the record is on the root domain (@), not a subdomain. Check for typos in the token. |
| "Too many attempts" |
Wait 5 minutes (rate limit: 15 attempts per 5 minutes). |
File Upload Issues
| Problem |
Solution |
| "File not accessible (HTTP 404)" |
Ensure the file is at https://yourdomain.com/verusight-verify.txt. Check your web server root. |
| "File content doesn't match" |
File must contain only your token. No extra whitespace, HTML, or BOM characters. |
| "Request timed out" |
Your server must respond within 5 seconds over HTTPS. Check firewall/WAF rules. |
| "Domain resolves to a private IP" |
The domain must point to a public IP. Can't verify from localhost. |
| "Too many attempts" |
Wait 5 minutes (rate limit: 15 attempts per 5 minutes). |
General Tips
- Try a different method — if DNS isn't working, try file upload (or vice versa)
- Give DNS time — propagation can take up to 48 hours, though usually completes in 5–30 minutes
- Use the same browser — don't switch browsers mid-verification
- Check the token — ensure you're using the correct verification token (visible in the Settings modal)
